And a fine Wednesday it is. Apparently we all feel very strongly about public grooming. The nerve of some people. I can remember Kathy wanting to light herself on fire back in the days of cubicle hell. Now she has a cushy office and doesn't have to worry about those sorts of things. Seriously? Clipping your toenails at work? Jul - remember Mr. Balon in 5th grade?? Ewwwwwwwwwww. INAPPROPRIATE!
Speaking of toes, what does it say about me that I've lost 4 toenails in the last 6 weeks? I mean, two of them I had clearly smashed, as they were black and blue...so I expected them to fall off. But the other two? A complete shocker. It's very strange and makes me unpedicurable for awhile. Very depressing, because I really want one.
There's not a whole lot of excitement for me right now, kids...I'm glad the weather is cooling off. I'm in the mood to make chili and soup and stew...how bout you? Any good crock pot recipes to pass my way?
Congratulations Eileen on your new job. Sounds perfect for you AND I've posted her latest blog entry for the News Review...so read it, people!

I would really look into a discount pedi. See what they'd charge to have six toenails done. You could start a trend, like eating Snickers with a fork.
Now that's funny...a 6 toe pedicure at a discount price! HA!
Discount Pedicure... too funny.
Mr. Balon... bad memory.

SPEAKING of recipes, I need 5 to submit for the Montessori cookbook. So blog your favorite and maybe it’ll make the book.
I’m thinking of submitting the following:
-Julie’s Chili (named by the Crum family… it’s really called Quick Chili)
-Carmel Bars
How about that cheese ball recipe? Other ideas?
how a bout Salty Chocolate Balls??
oh, oh, wait, how about Schwetty Balls??? Anybody every have Schwetty Balls?
i know that's you JIM!
You guys suck at this game...Come ON people, no one has ever had Schwetty Balls...
sorry I did not have anything more useful for your cook book Jewels
Julie, what about the Cornflake/hashbrown casserole? I just had it added to a charity cookbook for one of my friends.
It's as follows:
1 bag shredded hashbrowns (thawed)
one small diced onion
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 container sour cream
1 bag shredded cheddar
Small box of Cornflakes
Mix the thawed hashbrowns, onion, soup, sour cream, and cheddar. Spread in a lightly greased 9x13 pan. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cover the top with crushed cornflakes and put back in the oven uncovered for 10 minutes.
Is there a rule about the recipes? Does it have to be an "original" recipe, or can you submit something from Pilsbury? Like the Italian Antipasto Squares?
Nothing about rules was mentioned. Can a recipe be copyrighted? I'm not worried if it's not original.
Love the Cornflake Hashbrown Casserole.... and I will submit it! THANKS Tigger!
I'm just submitting 5 because that is what they asked for. If they don't use them, oh well. :)
Well, you should definitely submit the Italian Antipasto Squares
Argh - the problem is...a lot of what I do, I don't use recipes anymore!
Oh wait...what about those spicy nuts? That's something fun and different...
3c peanuts (raw or not dry roasted)
3c green raw pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
2c pecan halves
3tbl peanut oil
10 cloves garlic, rough chop
2tsp sea or Kosher salt
1T hot chili powder (you can add cayenne for more heat)
Preheat oven to 275.
Mix just the nuts together.
In a large frying pan, warm the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté until the garlic just begins to turn tan (3-5 minutes).
Add in the nuts to the pan, turning them over to cover everything with the oil. Next add in the salt and chili powder a little at a time, mixing well throughout the nuts and garlic. Adjust the salt and chili powder until the taste tingles the tongue.
Transfer to a baking sheet, spreading evenly. Bake 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
