So this morning on the Today show, they did a whole segment...two segments actually on young men in their 20's getting vasectomies. Men who have no children, no spouse...who maybe want to get married someday but definitely don't want to have kids.
Did the doctor try to talk him out of it? No. Urologists gave him no resistance. Did family members? Maybe. But my point is this. If a 28 year old woman with no kids, no spouse walked into her OBGYN and told them that she wanted a tubal ligation, the doctor would talk her out of it. Most won't even consider it. I know people who have been turned down even after the woman has had kids. My sister-in-law being one of them. I did a little research on the net and they say that only 1/3 of young women who ask for tubal ligations actually get them. And that's only because they go to several doctors. SEVERAL. The attitude of the medical community is that "they'll regret it" - but do they share that same sentiment with the men?
If a young girl wants a boob job, a tattoo...these are "permanent" procedures that can be reversed, yes? So why all the shit about getting your tubes tied?
Thoughts? Do you know someone who was talked out of their tubal by their doctor? Family? Friends?

Why would anyone talk a man out of such a surgery? Who would stop a man from being able to have sex with any woman he choses and not have the worries of knocking her up?
Its a great idea.
Can this surgery be reversed In case the man looses his mind and wants kids or a relationship?
I think it can, I read somewhere that it can. I think it's easier to reverse than a TL in a woman.
Why would anyone talk a woman out of the same surgery, that's the point. Why can't a woman have sex with any man she chooses and not have the worries of GETTING knocked up?
I don't know about all this, but I DID read that the Chesterton Streakers expulsion got reversed...
REALLY??? It did?? I must find the article.
Oh, and to get on topic, it's the same thing that has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years, the good ol' double standard
I know, Pea - I know - that's why it pisses me off so bad that they're bringing this guy on the TODAY show, basically advertising that men can get vasectomies without any hassle - while women who want to make the same choice get put through the ringer.
It's the man trying to keep us down.
yeah, the MAN
Do you think if more men and women get these surgeries there will be more married men and women messing around? Don't you think that the risk of GETTING knocked up or knocking someone up is a deterrent to messing around?
No, I think a person's moral compass is what keeps them from messing around. I have an IUD - can't get pregnant, I'm not messing around. Nor do I want to. Nor do I think I could and should get away with it simply because I can't get knocked up.
If my husband got a vasectomy, would I be worried about him messing around? No. I didn't marry someone I can't trust.
If people are going to mess around...they're going to do it whether their equipment is armed or not.
AIDS should be deterrant enough...simple, if you can get knocked or do the knocking whilst messing around your surly can get THAT
