Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

No, that's not a headline about the Jimmer's love-life...it's the name of a movie, sillies. Haven't heard of it? Yeah, neither had I. Bumptious blogged about it awhile back, and then the lovely Laura recommended it, so I decided I should give it a try. I LOVED this film! Val Kilmer and Robert Downey, Jr. and some girl who I called a poor man's Ellen Pompeo, but Kev-head insists this girl was MUCH better looking. I didn't see it. I think this is the first film I've really loved RDjr in since "Chances Are" and a quick lookup on imdb tells me that was from '89, kids. And he sings the song as the credits roll, which I also loved but the Kev-head replied "anyone can sing with the right amount of production" and proceeded to try and serenade me. But he had no producer and the raw format was not pretty. I love my man, but singing is not one of his attributes. It's one of the reasons I dated him in the first place. I think we're all aware of my sordid past with musicians - ahem...not pretty. Sooooo, I married a man who couldn't carry a tune if I put a handle on it and away we go.

I'm adding this film to my "must see" list...it was that good. I want to buy it and watch it over and over again to pick up the one-liners...there were quite a few. Even Kev-head belly laughed a couple of times.

So what else is on my must see list? In no particular order...
1. Ferris
2. The Negotiator
3. The Usual Suspects
4. Reservoir Dogs
5. Clerks (my aunt and uncle watched this on my recommendation and hated it, but oh well, I still LOVE it)
5a. Change number 5 to all Kevin Smith films including Chasing Amy, Mall Rats, etc. The man is a genius.
6. The Sting (I LOVE Robert Redford, what can I say?)
7. Stealing Home
8. Practical Magic
9. Blazing Saddles
10. The Shining
11. Fight Club
12. Animal House
13. Stripes
14. Caddyshack
15. The Commitments
16. The Full Monty
17. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
18. Almost Famous
19. 40 year old Virgin
20. The Shawshank Redemption

I am quite certain there are more. What are your "must-sees"? Movies that when people say they haven't seen it you actually do a double-take.

Eileen - these are all EXCELLENT additions! I forgot the Princess Bride! Inconceivable!

And Say Anything...I do love me some John Cusack...

I have to admit, I don't know Waiting for Guffman or Everything is Illuminated. Must go out to imdb and see what these are all about!

OMG - and now looking at "Waiting for Guffman" I'm reminded of "Best in Show" - which is HILARIOUS and also a must-see.

OMG how could I have forgotten The Jerk, "cause the first day seemed like 6 days and the 2nd day seemed like 1 week and 3 days, and the 3rd day seemed like 2 days, and then on the fourth day you went to see your mother, so that just seemed like a day"....

Pea you're hilarious!

My fave movie of the summer.....

"Failure to Launch" w/ "my Matthew" and horse face Sarah Jessica Parker.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie!! I WILL marry that man one day. And it will be b/c he loves me! Not b/c i stalked him and he became afraid of me and gave in dammit!

OMG - Pea - The Jerk - seriously...you are so right.
"I'm picking out a Thermos for you. Not an ordinary Thermos for you."

I almost rented "Failure to Launch" last night - but decided to get the RDjr movie instead. I'll have to get that one tonight!

Oh, yes. "Waiting for Guffman," "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind" are all by Christopher Guest, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy et all, and all improvisational. But Waiting for Guffman is my favorite. Parker Posey as a DQ worker who tries out for the small town of Blaine's onstage production of "Red, White and Blaine." Comedy at its best.

I'm making a list...I love those guys. Can't believe I missed that one! 'A Mighty Wind' - that was just fantastic.

And Pea - Goodfellas...yeah...you're right.

Failure to Launch is good, we enjoyed it. Howabout Fargo, what a wonderful comedy

Here are a few in no particular order as well...

1) The Big Lebowski
2) Independance Day - I love the speech the President (Bill Pullman) gives just before the last battle. I'm getting chills just recalling it but I can not do it word for word at the time.
3) Slapstick
4) Old School - Vince Vaughn: "earmuffs" Frank the Tank: "Cock Balls." VV: "Ok Frank, let's not celebrate it."
5) Kill Bill 1 and 2
6) Spaceballs
7) The Hunt for Red October "Ensign, give me one ping and one ping only." Gotta love Sean.
8) All of the Indiana Jones Movies, although #2 wasn't as good as the rest.
9) Roger Rabbit "PPPPPPPPLease Eddie"
10) The Star Wars Trilogy. (not the new ones...)

Ah yes, there are many many more...

What?!! No Shrek and Shrek II? Showed those to the 6th graders and was laughing my head off at the one liners they didn't get.

On the serious side, what about Shindler's List? Anyone seen The Pawnbroker? That was a 60's flim and the only one that I came out of the theater speechless. About a Nazi camp survivor learning to trust again. Can't remember the lead actor's name (he's dead now anyway), but it's a goody for food for thought.

Saw Practical Magic last weekend on TV and I loooove the music!

And how about The Godfather I?

Did you guys here about John Cusack's stalker who threw letters over his fence with screws, nuts and bolts in a bag for added weight? Instead of shaking my head and saying, "What a freak!" I found myself saying, "Why didn't I think of that?" It's scary how our teenage crushes manifest themselves in our 30s, isn't it? I love JOhn Cusack, always have, but am safely living 2,000 miles away in Oregon, NOT because of a restraining order (that I'll admit to, at least...)

Rebecca - get Downey, Jr.'s CD The Futurist. It includes the closing credit song and a bunch other really good stuff.

I also loved Kiss, Kiss - a really smart, funny movie.

My favorite movies include Rear Window (OK, anything Hitchcock), The Big Chill, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. All the President's Men ranks up at the top, too.

How about the Picture of Dorian Grey? It was a better book though.

Mom, didn't you like The Sprial Staircase?

Jimmer - Kevin and I were talking last night and he couldn't believe I didn't have Roger Rabbit on my list "All the times you pulled my ears?" That movie is fantastic.

The Big Chill - dead on!!! That definitely makes the list.

Kev-head and I were talking about the blog over cocktails, he hadn't read it, and when I told him about my list, he immediately starting guessing just about every film on it. I guess the man knows me. :) He said "Full Metal Jacket", which ABSOLUTELY should have made my list.

Sneakers should also be there - what a great cast.

Weren't you just telling me the other day about the movie Always? And how it was your bestest, favorist movie ever? You've got a long list babee...

Rebecca said...

I DO love the movie Always - look at kat mat showing off her html skills with the italics. She's so cool.

I have a really long list, it's true...and you probably haven't seen half the movies on it, have you? Ya lame-o. I actually tried to give Kathy homework once, because she hadn't seen Animal House or The Blues Brothers. Blasphemy, I say.

Ooh...add The Blues Brothers to the list, too.

Rebecca said...

OMG - and REAL GENIUS!

"Well, I guess it goes from God, to Jerry to you to the cleaners. Right, Kent?"

Welcome to Pacific Tech's "Smart People on Ice".

I can't believe there is someone that hasn't seen Blues Brother's. Seriously, are you a Communist?

"It's 160 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."

"Hit it!"

HOW IN THE HELL COULD WE HAVE FORGOTTEN "A CHRISTMAS STORY"

"I can't put my arms down"

I wish I was Randy, I am randy, but I want to be Randy.
